Getting to know Mariët

Today I would like to introduce you to Mariët, the girl behind the MissJettle blog and Instagram profile. Several years ago – before she had kids – I came across MissJettle’s profile on Instagram and I immediately fell in love with her minimalistic, but colorful style. Her feed is lovely, eye-catching and inspiring. She calls her style; “Scandinavian Romantic – a white base with pastels and a touch of vintage.”

Mariët’s Instagram adventure started 6 years ago, and it has been very successful so far. She also has a blog where she writes about interior, styling and photography. It’s amazing how she manages to have such a variation of motives and compositions, considering she’s only photographing her own house. Every image is unique, inspiring and beautiful. Even her collaboration-based posts are fully in-sync with the rest of her feed.

A few weeks back I had the privilege of meeting and photographing Mariët, her boyfriend Tim and their boys Peppe (almost 3) and Nox (3 months) in their beautiful home in Amersfoort. Knowing her interior so well from Instagram, made me feel quite familiar from the moment I arrived. I can assure you, it’s just as gorgeous in reality as it looks on Instagram. Her house is a photographer’s dream with lovely bright rooms and colorful accents that all fit together. Every detail has been carefully thought of and it’s easy to see the love and talent Mariët has for interior design. When I asked Mariët to describe her family with one word, she gave me the Dutch word for “Relaxed” and I have to say it fits them perfectly. Even though the boys each had a bit of the flu and even earache, the atmosphere was indeed very easy-going and relaxed – as I’m sure you can see from the images.

My goal with this photo session was to capture the little moments, the interaction and the love the four of them have for each other – in the most natural way possible. I especially wanted to focus on including Mariët in the photos, since she is normally the one behind the camera. It is so important for kids to have images with both mom and dad and it will be a treasure to them as they grow older.

I enjoyed this session so much and love how the images turned out. It’s been nice to get a peek behind the scenes and learning more about what MissJettle is all about. Are you a bit curious to know even more about who this talented woman is, here’s your chance:

1. When did you discover Instagram and how has the journey been for you so far?

I have been active on Instagram for 6 years. I post snapshots from my home and life with the kids. I love to photograph and inspire others by sharing creative ideas, tips, and news. I love how Instagram connects me to people with the same interests and passions.

2. What’s the story behind your name “MissJettle”?

My brother-in-law used to call me Jettle (derived from Jet, my nickname), and so I decided to use that name for my Instagram account. As the name was working well for me on Instagram, I decided to use that name for my blog as well.

3. Can you name any interesting assignments and/or collaborations that have come about through your Instagram or blog presence?

I regularly have great collaborations with big companies like Mister Design, Flexa, Fonq and Karwei. Last summer I also had a great collaboration with MediaMarkt with the latest “The Frame TV”. I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing an overnight stay in a great hotel two times! I Also like to work with smaller companies to help them achieve some brand awareness.

One of the most special and fun experiences I’ve had, was being interviewed and filmed for the Dutch “Eigen Huis en Tuin” tv program.

4. Name 3 things you have learned through the years being an active blogger and Instagrammer

A lot of preparation and effort goes into getting your followers to visit your blog, you have to make them curious by putting something new and interesting. Creativity is a must!

5. How has the arrival of your boys changed the way you blog, photograph, and share on social media?

I have become increasingly more perfectionistic; I want to put beautiful pictures with interesting captions. I have become more self-critical about what I post and am constantly challenging myself to evolve.

6. What was most important to you when you decided to do a family photo shoot with me?

It was really important to me to have pictures of my family which included myself. Normally, I’m the one behind the camera, so having someone photographing all of us in our home – the place I love most – was great. I know these images will be very valuable to us in the years to come. And your photos are all beautiful!

(lots of thanks for this huge compliment, Mariët! Big hug, Marianne)

7. How did the actual shoot feel like, and what do you think about the result?

The shoot was nice and unforced. I don’t like posing and this felt natural and effortless. I found the pictures so incredibly beautiful that I had to shed a tear. Very happy with the result and the images are so valuable to us.

8. How do you think the images from the session will make you feel in 10 years?

I’ll probably be reminiscing about how young we all were, how small, cute and sweet the boys were, and remember the good old times 🙂

That was all for today. Many thanks to Mariët for this fun collaboration, I hope you will enjoy the photos for many, many years to come.

Following are some of my favorite images from the session. If you want to see even more, you can have a look at the slideshow.
